About Marilyn Monroe Portrait
Marilyn Monroe (1926 – 1962) is a globally recognized goddess and still one of the most beautiful women in the world, she was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comic “blonde bombshell” characters, Marilyn became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and was emblematic of the era’s attitudes towards sexuality. Her soft deep voice still echoes “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. This painting is the artist’s introspective into the mysterious legacy of this glamorous American icon and her contribution to female sexual revolution.
This portrait of Marilyn Monroe makes a statement, measuring 4 x 5 foot, this oil painting is bold and alluring, with reds and golds accentuating stars’ charm and beauty. This is a very special painting for Tatyana, as a first Celebrity Portrait she has ever done on such a large scale and it took 5 months to complete. Tatyana was fortunate to learn directly from the Old Masters by making replicas as a copyist at the National Gallery of Art. She has developed a glazing technique, that gives her oil paintings luminosity and depth of color. The energy of red and Marilyn’s magnetism create suspense and romantic charge, similar to falling in love. The artist states “I definitely was in love with life when I was working on this piece… I know it will not leave you indifferent”.This luxurious painting is richly embellished with numerous genuine faceted diamonds, rubies and gold leaf, making it a true conversation piece.
Marilyn’s sensual persona continues to influence pop culture today. Monroe’s style has been copied many times by modern stars and will be hard to ever forget about. “In the ’80s she inspired Madonna‘s career-defining “Material Girl” video. More recently, she’s the calculating seductress in the 2011 drama “My Week With Marilyn,” the glitzy subject of a Broadway musical (“Bombshell”) in the NBC series “Smash” and the emotionally charged alter ego of pop singer Nicki Minaj in the single “Marilyn Monroe” (Guzman, 2012).
Tatyana’s creative process is fluid and intuitive, up until the last moment, everything could change. She works methodically, but passionately, not settling until it feels perfect, some paintings taking years to complete. A prolific painter, similar to her master teachers, Tatyana has many paintings in progress, waiting for the inspiration to progress to the next step. She uses quality professional oil paints, like Gamblin, Winsor & Newton and Da Vinci and favors Fredrix linen canvas.
Tatyana uses the Old Master’s techniques she’s learned while making replicas at the National Gallery of Art, giving her large scale oil paintings luminosity and depth of color.
Tatyana uses various natural materials and precious gemstones in her oil paintings to create stunning texture and light effects. Dried up flowers, plants, insects, leaves, shels, fur, animal bones and feathers add their unique qualities. Painting is richly embellished with numerous small real faceted Diamonds, Rubies and Gold leaf, true conversation piece suited for sophisticated art collectors.
