This large 4 x 5 foot acrylic painting is vibrant and dynamic with powerful composition and energy. The torso of this boxer is imposing, confident and ready for battle. Measuring 5 feet tall, it makes a statement of Holyfield’s undisputed status as a world champion. Dramatic combinations of reds, greens and gold escalate tension, with red paint dripping down hints at the the combative nature of boxing. The gold halo reminiscent to the Italian Renaissance icons symbolizes athletes desire for excellence and determination to win. As a devout Christian, Holyfield’s key to success has been his faith. “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13, his favorite Bible verse is written in gold.

Inspiration
I love how fast & furious this piece came to life! It went like a boxing match, rapid, bold, decisive and strong. Running out of time, I’ve decided to use acrylics. I wanted to convey the intensity of the fight with the power of color and light. Using drips of red paint rolling down the canvas added a dramatic effect, pointing to his partially bitten-off ear.”
