Inspiration

As a mother and artist, I was moved to by the collective emotion of grief and sadness over the sudden departure of Kobe Bryant. I started painting as soon as I heard the news on Sunday, January 26th, 2020. After non-stop painting and 100 hours later, this portrait emerged.  Confident and focused, Kobe’s gaze seems to follow your eyes, bringing his essence back to life.  This painting is a gift to the Kobe Bryant family.  – Tatyana

About Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant (August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. A shooting guard, Bryant entered the National Basketball Association (NBA) directly from high school, and played his entire 20-season professional career in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers. In particular, Bryant won five NBA championships, was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team. He was 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) and a two-time NBA Finals MVP winner. Without a doubt, he was as one of the greatest players of all time. Tragically, on January 26, 2020, he was in a helicopter crash that killed Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gigi and seven others.

About the Artist

Russian-born and California-based, Tatyana Zen is a classically trained artist. Tatyana’s background in technology, design and philosophy blends into colorful artistic voice, intricately reflecting different points of view.  In essence, her artwork draws inspiration from the human form, sci-fi, pop-culture, glamour, fashion,  Zen philosophy and everyday life.

Tatyana was fortunate to learn the secrets of Old Masters as a copyist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. She has developed her own painting method to achieve luminosity and depth of color.  A nature lover, Tatyana often incorporates organic elements in her paintings from coffee and tobacco to diamonds and gold.
